About VEX Robotics

VEX, or more specifically, the VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) is a robotics program that creates annual game-based engineering challenges targeted towards students from elementary (VIQC) through University (VEXU).

As a subset of Innovation First International, its ultimate goal is to offer a wide range of students the opportunity to thrive in enriching STEM environments while enjoying the rewards of innovation, creativity, and problem-solving. Every May, the GDC releases a new and unique game, and teams then must brainstorm, design, build, and program robots to overcome both the offensive and defensive challenges the game presents.

With over 20,000 teams competing in over 40 countries, VEX Robotics has grown tremendously since its inception in 2007.

Dulaney VEX Robotics began competing during the 2009-2010 season Clean Sweep. Since then we have hosted over 10 VEX Robotics competitions, with participating teams coming from all over the Mid-Atlantic Area.

2024-2025 VRC Game: High Stakes

VEX Robotics Competition Spin Up is played on a 12’x12’ square field configured as seen above. Two Alliances – one “red” and one “blue” – composed of two Teams each, compete in matches consisting of a fifteen-second Autonomous Period, followed by a one-minute and forty-five-second Driver Controlled Period.

The game requires teams to score plastic rings by placing them on stakes located on the field in the form of neutral hexagonal mobile goals, on the wall, on each alliance’s side, or a high stake. Robots may also climb the ladder on any side to earn more points.
